Video Calls take up a large part of our everyday work and are an important part of Shared Sessions at cannyboard. It is the more important that both the technology and the setup fit - for an optimal user experience and a productive meeting. In addition to fulfilling the following technical requirements for video calls, you can do the following both on the Sessionboard and when participating via laptop / PC:

Consideration of the location requirements
Preventing audio problems
Check the settings
If you are participating in a video call via laptop / PC, check your settings, which you can find under the three-point menu of the Video Call Widget. Make sure that the correct microphone is selected in addition to the camera. It is also necessary to allow access to them.
Be careful with Sessionboard and laptop participants in the same room
You must note the following when both a Sessionboard and one or more laptops in the same room participate in a video call (e.g. to transmit it from a different perspective) to prevent a feedback loop: Only one participating device, regardless of whether it is a Sessionboard or laptop, can have the microphone and speakers switched on, the others must be muted and the volume set to zero.
Using a headset on the laptop / PC
Wearing a headset in noisy, crowded rooms can prevent annoying echoes and help other participants in the video call hear you more clearly.
Mute when you are not speaking
Mute yourself when you are not speaking to avoid distracting background noise. Alternatively, use a headset when participating via laptop / PC.
Speak into the microphone
Make sure that there is an adequate distance to the microphone, which is located on the top of the frame of the Sessionboard. The greater the distance between the microphone and the speaker, the harder it is to hear and the louder the background noise. For good audio quality, a distance of seven meters should not be exceeded. If the distance to the Sessionboard is greater, we recommend using the microphone on an additionally connected laptop in order to be able to understand you better. In this case you have to mute the microphone on the Sessionboard and set the loudspeakers on one of the two devices to zero.
Consideration of the location requirements
Please consider the following recommendations for the location of the Sessionboard to ensure good audio and picture quality:
- The recommended minimum room size for 86 '' devices is 3.5 x 5 m.
- The room size should not exceed 70 square meters.
- The sides of the Sessionboard should not be placed too close to a wall.
- The room acoustics should be correspondingly good and the room should contain appropriate sound absorbers if necessary.
- Make sure that the room is evenly illuminated and avoid backlighting.
Performance improvement
Poor performance in video calls can lead to disruptions such as image distortion and poor responsiveness. You can do the following to improve video call performance:
Check the internet bandwidth
A good internet connection and a certain bandwidth are required for good video quality. These are the requirements for the internet access and this is how you measure the existing internet speed.
Close unnecessary tabs and apps
Close unneeded browser tabs and apps during video calls on the laptop / PC to improve performance.
Turn off the camera
To increase performance, you can switch off the camera or minimize the Video Call Widget so that you can still make calls but no longer see the participants. Switching from the grid to the portrait view can also help.
Disconnect external displays
If you take part in a video call via laptop / PC, you can improve performance by disconnecting externally connected monitors from your device. Alternatively, you can also reduce the resolution of the external displays.
